Reading at 11:30, followed by a booksigning.
Virginia journalist Margaret Edds was three when her vibrant young mother died in 1950. How do you discover a woman you barely knew? If you’re lucky like Edds, you unearth hundreds of letters that lead you from southern Tennessee to a World War II city that helped birth the atomic bomb to the Kentucky coal fields and deep into the human heart. Finding Sara is a unique and heartwarming memoir that resurrects a lost relationship and a gentler America.
Margaret Edds holds degrees from Tennessee Wesleyan College and the University of Richmond.
Margaret spent more than 30 years as a political reporter and then editorial writer for The Norfolk Virginian-Pilot. Her first book, Free at Last: What Really Happened When Civil Rights Came to Southern Politics, grew out of an Alicia Patterson Fellowship year in which she traveled the South, talking to people about how life had changed since passage of the Voting Rights Act.
She and her husband, Bob Lipper, live in Richmond, Virginia, and have three spirited children
